Safari Tour: 3-Day Mokoro Excursion Exploring The Okavango Delta Waterways - Botswana Safari Tour
3-Day Botswana Safari Tour by Wild Spirit Travel
Offered by - Wild Spirit Travel
Tour Features
A mokoro safari in the Okavango Delta is a peaceful and deeply immersive way to experience one of Africa’s last true wilderness areas. Guests travel silently through winding crystal-clear channels in a traditional mokoro (dugout canoe), guided by experienced local polers who expertly navigate the waterways while sharing knowledge of the ecosystem. The slow pace allows for close encounters with wildlife such as kingfishers, herons, frogs, and grazing antelope along the floodplains. The experience also includes guided walking safaris on remote islands, where guests explore untouched landscapes on foot, learning about animal tracks, birdlife, and traditional uses of plants. Fishing is offered in selected safe areas of the delta, giving guests a chance to enjoy light catch-and-release fishing in pristine waters. On warm days, guests can also enjoy swimming in designated safe channels, a rare and refreshing highlight in this water-based wilderness. What makes is so special is evenings are spent in camp, surrounded by the sounds of nature, as the sun sets over the delta’s golden reed.

The journey to camp is peaceful and scenic, offering your first close encounters with birdlife and floodplain landscapes. On arrival at camp, guests settle in, enjoy a light refreshment, and unwind. - Day 2-3 - Full-Day Delta Activities and Guided Excursions
An early morning mokoro excursion takes guests deeper into the quieter channels of the Delta, where the stillness of the water allows for close observation of the surrounding ecosystem. Guided by experienced local polers, guests may encounter elephants feeding along the reed beds, red lechwe moving through shallow floodplains, and a variety of birdlife active in the cool morning hours. Along the way, guides share insight into the delicate balance of the Delta’s waterways, vegetation, and wildlife movements.
After returning to camp for brunch and a period of rest, the afternoon continues with a guided walking safari on nearby islands. Exploring on foot offers a completely different perspective of the bush focusing on animal tracks, medicinal plants, bird calls, and the smaller details often missed from a vehicle or boat. Guests may also enjoy fishing in designated safe areas or simply relax back at camp overlooking the channels. On warmer days, swimming in safe Delta waters provides a refreshing way to experience the environment. As the day cools, a sunset mokoro journey back through golden-lit waterways leads into dinner served under the evening sky.

When ready, guests are gently transferred back to the airport, leaving the wilderness behind but carrying it with them in memory, in feeling, in the stillness it leaves behind. The journey ends with the echo of wildlife encounters, subtle cultural impressions, and the deep, peaceful rhythm of the Okavango Delta that stays long after departure.

Wild Spirit Travel
Built for true explorers, our safaris are raw, untamed, and deeply immersive designed for those who want to experience the wilderness as it is, not from a distance.
We specialize in mobile expeditions that take you off the beaten track and into remote corners of the bush. Camp is set in the wild, where nights are lit by fire and the sounds of nature carry through the dark. Days are driven by instinct and terrain tracking wildlife on foot, navigating narrow delta channels by mokoro, and venturing further by motorized boat to reach untouched areas where few others go.
Our motorized boat safaris open up a different side of the wilderness covering greater distances, accessing deeper channels, and offering powerful, close-up encounters with wildlife along the water’s edge. It’s fast, dynamic, and unpredictable adding a new layer of adventure to the journey.
Led by experienced local guides, each expedition is flexible and shaped by the environment itself. There are no fixed routines only opportunities to explore, adapt, and fully engage with the wild.
This is not a polished, luxury escape. It’s a hands-on, boots-in-the-dust, water-on-your-skin kind of journey, real, rugged, and unforgettable.
