Our 3 days Selous Game Reserve Safari from Zanzibar Island is one of the most famous short safari tours from Zanzibar. This 3-days safari from Zanzibar to the Selous Game Reserve is one of the few short tours that one can take by road from the capital city of Dar es Salaam after having flown from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam International Airport and back from Dar to Zanzibar. We include flights from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam but not the transfer from your hotel to Zanzibar. We can also include the airport transfers at Zanzibar (airport pick up / drop off) if you give us the name of your hotel and location. From the Airport to most beach hotels the transfer costs USD 50 – 70 depending on the location of the beach hotel (2019 -2020 prices). - Day 1 - Day 1- Fly Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam - SelousThis morning take a flight from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam where you will be met by your safari guide. You will arrive at Dar es Salaam around 08.00 hrs and your driver will take you straight to Selous Game Reserve where you will arrive around lunchtime. You will settle down at your lodge or camp for hot lunch and some rest. In the afternoon you will be taken to the jetty where the boat safari starts. You will spend the afternoon doing a boat safari a magnificent experience in the Great Rufiji. Crocodiles, hippos, black and white colobus monkeys, crocodiles, and birds such as fish eagles, pied kingfishers, giant kingfishers, etc can be seen here as well as other animals as they converge to quench their thirst. Crocodiles take advantage to hunt their prey and you might be treated to sights of animal action if lucky. Late after enjoying the great sights of the sunset, you will return to your lodge/camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Selous Tented Camp perched right at the banks of Rufiji River. - Day 2 - Safari in Selous Game ReserveEarly morning breakfast this day at your camp/lodge, then you will check in at the Selous Game Reserve gates for a full day of game viewing inside Selous; the largest game Reserve in Africa. You will spend this full day in the vast game reserve doing wildlife game drives in search of animals and birds. You expect to spot gazelles, giraffes, impalas, elephants, wildebeests, kudus, and zebras, but also with a little luck you may spot the rarest of them all; the African wild dogs. Selous was named after a prominent European explorer; the late Frederick Selous and the reserve was later on in time declared a world heritage site by the United Nations body UNESCO. Selous Game Reserve is roughly the size of Switzerland and the game reserve covers unexploited African wilderness with an interesting landscape that has topography that varies from prominent savannah woodlands, rolling savannah grassland plains, and rocky outcrops that are believed to have formed a long time ago by the Rufiji River. - Day 3 - Walking Safari in Selous - Fly Dar Es Salaam to ZanzibarEarly morning breakfast then you will go for a walking safari inside the Selous Game Reserve a rare chance to come close to the wildlife and explore the African wilderness on foot. For your ultimate safety, you will be escorted by an armed ranger, a trained naturalist. After the walking safari, you embark on your drive back to Dar es Salaam by road. You will arrive in Dar es Salaam late afternoon if you drive by road. You will be dropped off at the Dar es Salaam International Airport for your flight back to Zanzibar Island.
