  • Day Day 1 - Kigali, Museum and transfer to Nyungwe
    8:30 AM: Pick up by the driver from your hotel. Start with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history and the 1994 genocide. Explore Kigali's craft markets for unique souvenirs and handicrafts from local artisans. Enjoy a local meal at one of Kigali’s top restaurants. Drive to Nyanza, approximately 2 hours south of Kigali. Explore the Royal Palace Museum in Nyanza, which offers insight into the traditional Rwandan monarchy, showcasing the history of the kings and queens with restored palaces and artifacts. Continue your journey to Huye for the next museum visit. Explore the Ethnographic Museum in Huye, which highlights Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage through exhibits on traditional artifacts, tools, crafts, and clothing. Check in to your lodge in Huye for an overnight stay.

  • Day Day 2 - Chimpanzee trekking & Transfer back to Kigali
    5:30 AM – 6:00 AM: Early breakfast at the lodge to fuel up for the trekking experience. Arrive at the park’s visitor center for a briefing on safety, chimpanzee behavior, and what to expect during the trek. Start your trek through the forest to locate the chimpanzee group. Depending on the group’s location, the trek can last 1 to 4 hours, as the rangers track the chimps based on their last known position. After your chimpanzee trekking adventure, return to the lodge for lunch or any restaurant. Begin your journey back to Kigali, with a scenic drive through Rwanda’s beautiful landscapes. You'll be dropped off at your hotel.

There are currently no direct flights from any North American city to Kigali. All require at least one stop, with most major cities, including New York, Toronto, Sao Paolo and Montreal only requiring one stop. Direct flights are available from Amsterdam and Brussels. There are also direct flights on Turkish Airlines, from Istanbul, and from Dubai on Rwanda Air. There are no direct flights from Doha and Qatar. Flights from major cities in Asia, such as Hong Kong and Singapore, also require one stop. Flights from Sydney, Australia presently require two stops.

Rwanda is quite tiny, and most people travel inside the country by car. Rwanda's speed limit is 60 kilometres per hour on all roads. Akagera Aviation, on the other hand, provides charter helicopter transfers to and from any place in the country.

  • For people visiting Rwanda in conjunction with Kenya and/or Uganda, it is possible to buy a joint visa for all three countries with advance application. See www.migration.gov.rw for details.
